Dominique Lafontaine

is Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Science of the University of Liège (Belgium) and head of the Department aSPe (Analysis of educational systems and teaching processes). She teaches several lectures: teaching and learning processes, experimental pedagogy, educational psychology, comparative analysis and monitoring of education systems. She has conducted numerous large scale assessments, especially in the field of reading. She has been national research coordinator for several comparative studies (IEA Reading Literacy and PISA). She is an expert consultant for national large scale assessments and member of the Board for monitoring compulsory education in the French Community of Belgium. She is member of the international group of experts for PISA and IEA-Pirls.

 

Catherine Gabelica

is a researcher at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Science of the University of Liège (Belgium) at the Department aSPe (Analysis of educational systems and teaching processes). She is presently working on the following researches :

  • External evaluation in reading and written production, in grades 2, 5 and 8.
  • I.E.A. PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Survey)
  • ADORE teaching Struggling Adolescent Readers: …
  • Action-research aiming at the creation of tools intended for the diagnostic and remediation of reading acquisition difficulties at grades 1 and 2

 

Patricia Schillings

(PhD of Education Sciences in 2004) has been working since 1993 on researches in the area of reading and literacy, intended for primary education (grades-3-to-6 comprehension curricula), secondary education ( implementation of reading teaching measures intended for grade 7, special needs) and higher education (dialogue between training and research about reading/writing 2002/2004 didactics). Furthermore, she is currently participating to the training of in-charge secondary teachers ( IFC - Professional Training Institute). These various researches helped to elaborate educational tools intended for teachers. Patricia Schillings has also been involved in the external evaluations organized by the piloting department of compulsory education (Ministry of Education, Research and Training) in the area of reading for grade 7 (1996). She has been scientifically responsible for the reading external evaluation in grade 11 (2005-2006) and grade 8 (2006-2007), organized by the French Community of Belgium.
